Compassionate End-of-Life Care
Grace House Akron is grounded in the knowledge that there are too many individuals in our community, who are at the end of life, with nowhere to go, and no one to care for them. We believe that everyone deserves to die in the presence of care, compassion, and dignity. GHA upholds the basic tenet “No one dies alone.” We serve those among our community’s most vulnerable—fostering a home for indigent, abandoned individuals at the end of life; these individuals often die alone, isolated within undignified and unacceptable conditions. We serve them at no cost to remove financial barriers to a dignified end-of-life.
We provide housing, 24-hour caregiving and access to basic needs, while our Hospice partners provide medical management of the illness.
Our Guiding Values
Everything we do reflects our commitment to:
- Compassion in all interactions
- Honoring each person’s inherent dignity
- Acceptance without judgment Excellence in care standards
- Celebrating each life’s unique journey
Grace House is more than a facility, it’s a home where individuals find warmth, support, and companionship during their final days.
Our Approach to Care
We offer more than shelter. Grace House provides safe shelter, care with dignity and compassion, and a nurturing environment for individuals with terminal illnesses. Each resident receives attentive care with respect. Our trained staff and volunteers provide 24/7 caregiving and access to basic needs of food, water and shelter. We serve terminally ill individuals who are:
- Enrolled in hospice
- Lack an able caregiver or means for private care
- Have limited financial resources
All Grace House services are free-of-charge, allowing individuals to pass peacefully without financial barriers to care.
Holistic Support Programs
Our specialized programs address the whole person:
- Music & Art Therapy for creative expression
- Therapeutic Massage for physical comfort
- Spiritual Care across all faiths and beliefs
- Vigil Companions ensuring no one passes alone
- Self-Care resources for families and staff
Educational Impact
Grace House is partnering with educational, healthcare and hospice experts and agencies to serve area students with important hands-on learning opportunities in hospice and palliative care fields.
This hands-on program will help future healthcare professionals understand how to meet the needs of underserved, terminally ill individuals, in an environment that values and promotes listening, respect and human dignity. Medical, nursing and health science students will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of dialogue and “being present” during end-of-life care.
If you or someone you know needs end-of-life care, please reach out. We ensure no one in our community faces their final moments alone.
